BMPIL Writing Challenge - Three Words To Describe My Job

Jun 24, 2021

There are 35 minutes left before midnight. I should be comfortable on the bed and ready to sleep but I can't put this off. Especially not when I'm moving out in a couple of days which might cause me to be busier and probably ending up not being able to write.

I kinda want to put myself to write daily as much as possible.

Some unrelated note. I've been spending the last hour trying to do a new pinboard for my sidebar and I wanted it to be anime-themed but I just can't find the right pictures so I made a chibi one instead. Also, this is actually the fourth-day topic, not the third day. I switch the third topic to tomorrow since the topic was what did I do today at work but I was having today and yesterday off. I decided to change it so it will be written from a more accurate perspective.

Before I go into those three words for today's challenge, let me give a short explanation about my job. This is my first time being a retail pharmacist and I've done this for almost eight months now. It's a chain business and usually in this case the pharmacist will also be the branch manager in which I am. I work according to shift - either morning shift or evening shift and have the weekend off. There are two staff under my supervision. The three words I choose to describe my job would be - retail, responsibilites and social.

Retail

A business setting is nothing like working in a government hospital. My clinical knowledge from my government experience does help but I still need to learn more. I needed to learn more to help me detect the signs and symptoms before suggesting a medicine. There are more choices too. Sometimes I'll discuss with the customer the options that we have and then they can decide which will they try. Of course, I will make a point to show which will work best though.

These in turn also affected my stock inventory. Even tho it is a chain business, I still have much control regarding my branch stock inventory. For that, I need to know the trend and also keeping a tab of stock movements.

It also challenges my interpersonal skills as I needed to be able to detect what kind of customer that I'm dealing with and what's the best way to approach them. It's challenging and it keeps me on my toes. But it can be super boring during slow days like during the whole Ramadhan and this PKP. As the customer lessens, the stock movement decreases as well. I just don't have much to do.

Responsibilites

As I am actually the branch manager, I was left on my own managing the pharmacy but I was blessed that I didn't actually do much as others might need to especially the more technical part. The technical parts were all handled by the headquarter - ie utilities, POS system, ordering with the supplier, logistic, and even dealing with a sales representative and do all those researches before deciding a supplier. But that was the technical part, the sales, training the staff, ordering monthly stock (we just sent our ordering to HQ and they will do the rest) and making sure the pharmacy is actually running is under my responsibilities.

It was nothing like this when I was in the government hospital. I do have my own portfolio but it was repetitive and dull and having no chance in the near future to be needing to do other things. Dealing with the same thing, especially a non living thing day in and day out was taking such a big toll on me. I was on the verge of burnout not because of how tiring the job physically but how it is mentally. This job opportunity came just right on time. The newfound responsibilities gave me more sense of purpose and satisfaction.

Social

I'm not a social person. My friends thought that I was being funny when I say this because they see me as someone who is easy to be with. But I tend to withdraw from people and only approach them as needed. You know when you feel like you need to talk to alleviate an awkward environment? I can do well in this situation but I usually just choose to keep quiet. This will of course affected how people be around me.

I think of being social as both my personality and also a skill. What this job does is that it brings out a different aspect of being social as I am constantly meeting new persons. Not only that, we've been having some regulars and that requires a different approach in socializing too. Including the staff at the headquarter, more direct contact with the managing directors and also the fact that I have trained seven sales assistant now, all of these unlocks more aspect in my social skill. I have actually taken it as a challenge.

As of recently, I take it as a challenge to have an individualized approach in training my staff. Especially the younger ones. I used to have this idea that I need to train them all the same way and the slow one should just pick up. I restricted my social approach during tutoring and thought they are old enough for me not to spoon-feed them. I think this has affected how comfortable they are with me. I guess the ones who better suited to that approach are more comfortable with me. But now I tried to understand them better and modeled my social approach differently with the hopes that I can still tutor them effectively and they can still be comfortable enough with me so that we can have a better working environment.

I hope there aren't too many errors in this post cause my eyes are literally blurry right now. I'll proofread this later.

Mona Lisa, Blog Ideas and twtblogger_MY

Aug 13, 2019

I have planned to write three posts in August but it's already the 13th of August yet I haven't written anything. Today's is Tuesday but I can see how I am so not able to write anything for the whole week so yeah.

By the way, check out the newly made Categories section on my sidebar. I decided to highlight that three categories and have spent about half an hour just to tweak those and also re-tagging my post. I need to go deeper but I guess that could wait. I need to update these first.

mona lisa

I wanted so much to share this so here it is. I'm not sure if you guys notice but Balai Seni Visual Negara has been hosting Leonardo Da Vincci's pieces for the past month. Not the actual ones, I mean how on earth they will transfer the very wall that holds "The Last Supper" mural, but it was this hi-tech camera thingy with another hi-tech lighting stuff that allows you to view the pieces as if it was the real thing They also made sure to also capture the deteriorating condition as well. I sit through the entire explanation of the process, that's why I know this.

It was held for a month and "conveniently" I was busy on all weekends. I was afraid I didn't get the chance to see it. But since I worked the night shift on Yang Dipertua Agong's coronation day, I got the day after off. I requested for off-day on Thursday too and that is how I ended up suddenly at BSVN, alone, in the middle of the week, to watch Mona Lisa and The Last Supper.

I'm not an art aficionado but I love looking at the art pieces from this era especially those from churches. For me, it was just beautiful, intricate and the detail is mind-blowing too. I let myself absorb all the details. The Last Supper is so big.

The Annunciation

My favorite is "The Annunciation". It just looks ethereal and the details on the flowery grass carpet are just so pretty. It was also an interesting POV to see how they hold sacred on their Christian teaching and just how the same but also contrasting it was with Muslim teaching. But as I said before, it matters to me because it is prettyyyyyy.

blog ideas

Although it seems impossible for me to write all those three posts. I should at least have a specific topic to write. I did state in my August's target to make this list. Basically, I wanted to write two topic for that four main themes I wanted to put in my blog namely (1) self-discoveries, (2) self-love, (3) mental health and (4) life hacks that would fit into the first three themes.

The first and second theme seems interchangeable, isn't it?

So here is the topic -

  1. Self  discoveries: My greatest weakness + 30 Things That I Love About My Life
  2. Self love: What Does It Mean To Love Yourself + Journaling for Self Love
  3. Mental Health: What Is Mental Health + How Are You (I want to write something to prompt people into thinking  more about their mental health status)
  4. Life Hacks: Self-affirmation + podcast

These are some wild topics for me but I'll try my best. I want to write these because I want to learn as well. These topics just feel right for me so I'll give it my very best.

twtblogger_my

I made a twitter account meant for a good space for us and it was slow. I got confused on what the heck I should do and my self-consciousness is always trying to get the better of me but I persevere, guys, I persevere. As much perseverance it is lah since the account was only live for about three weeks only lol.

I'll stick through even if the hype is not much. Ok, probably as long as there is some, I'll keep on going. I am amazed how much self-motivation I poured into this but I know this is for me. It is mainly because I want it to work out so bad plus I am dedicating this as my current life project.

Do You Guys Need a Blogger Community?

Aug 3, 2019

The title is actually the whole post. Yup. Can I just stop here and let you guys comment if you want it or not?

But alas, pfft. This is me you're talking about, I always have something more to say.

I have been blogging for almost 10 years. Oh my god, I'm old. Yet I have never found any good blogging community-ish stuff which is based in Malaysia that helps me to grow as a blogger. Grow here means to be able to make a good blog that blog what I wanted (in this case, a lifestyle blogger) without the need to do those random articles just to get more clicks or that "follow for follow"/"comment for comment"/"click ads for click ads" culture.

That what happens in most blogger clubs I have joined in those early years. They do help in getting the blog more recognized and the blogger does get bonded well but it wasn't fulfilling for me. I stopped getting in the blogging community until two or three years back when I realized there are more good blogs that I loved to read (especially those on my blog-list widget).

Am I the only one who overthink this stuff?

Anyway, that has made me blog more these days. It was more fun. But we still lack a means of community.  So come the second question, do you guys also need a mean of community cause I think, as long as it is online event, I can cater it. Of course, I am delighted if there other people who wanted to help me.

The idea is for me to be a simple moderator and I am not going out of twitter. So I'll probably make a Twitter account (call it @malaysianbloggerr probably, we need a cooler name) and probably have a weekly thing like a blogger chat and monthly thing like a topic for us to write about and thus share our thoughts about it.

I need an active participation of course and twitter sends better exposure than other social medias.

So what do you guys think? Am I daydreaming or this is doable?

Comment your thoughts and suggestion here and since I'm using Disqus it will serve a rather good means of discussion too.

Disclaimer, I am so not doing this to publicize myself or my blog, I just need a good Malaysian based community and if this goes well, everyone can benefit from it?

So, do you guys need a blogger community?

We Don't Care April Has Ended (konon) and New Niche?

May 15, 2019

I got a revelation yesterday, I want to build a niche for my blog. Yes, I've been blogging for years and only now I decided to make a niche. But before we dive into that, I need to tell something. We went for iftar today and I knew the "terawih" here starts late so I thought I can still make it. But I got lost and when I finally found my way, it was way too late so I went back home. Yupp. I really did that. So now I'm updating my blog.

Ok, first thing first. My monthly updates. I didn't set any goals for May because it's Ramadhan and I was just way too comfortable in my new house. Yes, I move out, again. The new place that I told before is just hot and too small. I kept on whining about it and a friend of mine at work suggest to move in together because her place is too dusty (she was being dramatic). Anyway, the idea of living with actual friends is so appealing. We got another friend of ours to move in together as well and now here we are under the same roof. Cheaper rent, more spaces, and someone to talk too after day work. It has been great.

Ok, I'm sidetracked.

April's target outcomes.

  1. Finish reading both Kafka on The Shore and Norwegian Wood - DONE AND I TOTALLY LOVES IT
  2. Read one poetry book - i'm halfway lol
  3. Finish reading Al Baqarah translations - i only read like two pages. omg, got any idea to make it, like fun?
  4. Try to at least go to the gym twice a week - i gave up gym. if you read my depressing post before that hatyai thing, you'll know that i just don't want to that. i think i'll do more walking after ramadhan.
  5. Try to do at least 5 brush drawing practice (i think i have lost my brushes and watercolor) - i only did once. but at least i found a blog that has this series of tutorial. i think my brushes are of poor quality that it didn't turn out well. that reminds me, i need new brushes.
  6. A detailed itinerary to Thailand that includes Hatyai and Krabi - DONE!
  7. Write all 30 poems according to prompts from NaPoWriMo and update it into a thread on Twitter - i wrote until day 15. or was it day 18? i put it all on my pinned twitter. it's going to take some time but i do want to finish all 30 prompts.
  8. No sugary drinks except for my daily morning coffee EOD - i really did forget about this.

Wow, I didn´t do as bad as I thought I did.

Ok now let's go onto my revelation in actually building a niche for my blog. The niche is (cue for drumroll) - ok i don´t know how to word it out. Basically, I want to do a blog that focuses on self-improvement and self-discoveries. I want it filled with things that can enrich life, life hacks and simply helping others to become a better version of themselves. It was also to help me to become a better me. Ok, tell me, what kind of niche is that.

If you're here for the bloglist - scroll down until you see a very cute Korean guy with bunny teeth. or you can just read everything. I could be your thing?

I'm like spiritually awoke each time I remember I bought the domain but I bought this last Tuesday and only gets to write about it today. Am I not spiritually awoke enough?

I'm so bored right now like I think I finally understand the very core essence of  "bored to death". You see, I have finished my PRP right? So now, I have the chance to spend my time off. Newsflash everybody, working as a pharmacist in government hospital means shift works but we don't get paid, we just get time-off. Go be a doctor if you want money. They got paid a lot for the extra shift but the life is super busy and exhausted though.

Anyway, so here I am, free as the birds fly without nothing to do. Well, you can only read so much and writes so much until it gets damn boring. I do reading and writing as hobbies for god sake. FYI, I'm thinking of going to the stationary store and buy some watercolor cause those seem fun. Also, go check my Instagram because I just started doing analysis on "100 Love Poems You Should Read Before You Die" which basically a noob (me) trying to understand classical (i guess) poems.

Back to the most important matter.

IT IS AFIFAHADDNAN.COM (I'm so tempted to say bitches but I'm just so well mannered and now am so proud with my self-control)

so now, please spend two seconds of your life and looks and look at the address tab to just appreciate that it is afifahaddnan.com

Actually, a lecturer of mine oppose the idea of getting the domain because I rarely update which is like "Whatever imma an independent girl (sangat takda kena mengena) and I'll do what I want" but then I got self-conscious like "Prof are you actually reading this? I STILL IN LOVE WITH BTS BTW"

he hates k-pop

speaking of k-pop, I'm going to write all about my in-depth analysis on k-pop. someday.

Image result for jungkook hot andcute gif
i'm sorry if you expect more

Now, getting to the second most important matter for the day - my BLOGLIST

If you guys read my blog, you'll notice that I have a bloglist which dedicates to list Malaysian blogger. Actually, it was more on dedicating to blog list those with a true passion to write original content. Back when blogging got hyped in Malaysia, bloggers only rewrite thing which is just so weird. Everyone can Google those and I know it gives you traffic but why? So at that time, blog walking isn't much of an excitement. However, I learned to realize that now, more and more Malaysian bloggers are writing more quality content which makes it exciting to do this bloglist. But the project took so much time (ie stalking more blogs) and now I'm coming up with a new strategy to expand this database (we're using big words now, keep up).

We are playing tags (this is not an excuse to play tags because I miss another storm of tags)

It's easy, just post this banner and tell three things that screams passionate blogger to you. Then tag two other bloggers for the tag. This is just to get the words spreads. If the said blogger is interested to be listed, just make sure the tag pass on and comment something here. Idk, Hi or something? You can just comment a dot and I'll put your blog in the bloglist.

I hope this gets attention and not end up with me looking sad.

I guess I'll start. Well. Passionate blogger for me means -

1. he/she care to make the post/blog aesthetically pleasing as according to the blog theme.
2. have some topic or niche instead of just posting daily rambling.
3. actually loves writing (we can read through the words if the person enjoys writing or not).

Actually, all my faves have been listed in the bloglist so, I'm just tagging this to spread words.

These are some passionate bloggers

The charming and cute Fatina
The smart and sweet Eyqa
The most aesthetically pleasing thing Rasya
The most supportive and loving Mrs Pip
The ambitious and talented Lya Amie

and now I runs out of adjectives.

Roll On: My Insecurities in Blogging

Aug 14, 2017

This is a cry for help.

Yes, fellas, you have read that right. I know I have been updating the blog so religiously this August but seriously, I never thought it's now making me feel like this. Like I am being a horrible blogger instead. This feels so horrible.

Roll On: Rate My Blogging Skill

Aug 5, 2017

I guess the title is kinda self-explanatory. I hope this will help me to improve my blog and overall just becoming better.

Here's a poll for you!

For those who have answered - I love youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.

Source

I have been more active in blogging since I have graduated from UKM (though that only means around eight to ten posts per month but still) and I was so surprised to see some "don't do this because we didn't really like it" things back then during 2010 are still happening today. I remembered during those time how it is a thing to publish about this topic and some blogger actually comment it directly when they went blogwalking.

Does these "don'ts" bothers me? Some of it really does but I notice that today's blogging community are far more mature and so chill that I don't really mind to keep my eyes close.

If anyone actually do these, don't be alarmed, it is just an observation. Seven years is a long time. Not only it is interesting to see how the Malaysian blogging community has grown but also to see if it is something we need to do something about.

Here are 5 things 2010's bloggers are told not to do

source

#1 Songs

Background music is such a taboo thing back then. Some says it was because the sudden song will disturb the surrounding people and for me it just kinda disturbing. Not to mention that I sometime can't find the button to pause it and end up just silent my laptop speaker.

#2 Twinkling cursor

I am an old person. During 2010, glittergraphic.com is just da bomb. One of it most succesful innovation are those fancy cursor and some even have glitters following it. Cute but can be annoying. Sometime the colors didn't go well with the theme and we end up not seeing it. I remember one time scrolling my cursor mindlessly because I can't see where the cursor is. Then when I do find it I got confused at which end does it click (of course it was the whole cursor but it still get me every time!). I told you I'm an old person.

#3 Rojak or messy language

2010 is the peak of bahasa minah/mat rempit and yes some blogs does write it such way. Fortunately, it didn't went overboard due to some responsible bloggers who publicize how it is hard to understand and will only lower down the said blog traffic. Yet, there are still cases of overuse short forms and the language being too too laid back. As of today, I do saw some bloggers, only a few, who wrote in this laid back manners. Laid back is good, people like it, but not properly writing it just kills the mood for me. That is why I have some fetish for Malaysian bloggers who wrote in English. Since we learned it formally, the writing have professional air around it even though some (reads as me) are struggling to with grammars.

#4 No embedded comments?

Having a 2GB ram laptop really put a toll on me upon visiting these kind of blog. Not to mention, since I have to wait for it to load first, I tend to read other blog in the mean time which had me getting lost on whose comment page is this. It is far easier to just embedded it guyssss. That verification code as well!

#5 Follow me follow you

I have a strict rule to only follow bloggers that interest me. So please don't follow me and expect that I am responsible to follow you back. I used to do that and it made my Reading List so dull and hinders me from properly connects with bloggers that I actually like. I do want to really know more bloggers but I can't do it if I spam my own Reading List. Wait a minute - is this why I don't have many followers?

Having said all of these, I do hope no one takes it seriously like - I don't hate you. What matter is the content. There are plenty of awesome bloggers out there who did this and still receive tonnes of traffic and lots of fans. Just do what makes you happy. If twinkling cursor with fairy dust makes you happy then just do it.

Roll On: I AM BLOGLISTED BY MRS PIP #2

Jul 13, 2017

This is a segment and usually, I don't do segment. It might be due to tedious rules (too many sponsors) and because I kept my list of followed blogs just the ones that I genuinely want to follow. I like Mrs Pip blog so here I am.

Don't forget to join my own CONTEST as well.

Roll On: Why I Hate Disqus and Google+ Commenting System

May 30, 2017

I'm writing this on my phone - right now at 1230 am and I'll regret this. Damn that coffee.

A week back, I put Disqus commenting system on my blog as I always loved how interactive the commenting system is. I was holding back before since I thought I'd lose my old comments but apparently in the process of installing it, they have an option to sync back all those comments.

What a splendid thing it is!!

Roll On : My Unexpected Rendang Recipe

May 25, 2017

Lazada is holding this competition for bloggers and heck yeah I am joining it since I missed it the last time. I didn't put much hope to actually win anything but it felt good to be part of this. The requirement for this week (19 May 2017 – 1 June 2017) theme is to share my favourite recipe. For that folks, I have a little story for you.

Yesterday, there is some sambal left and Walid bought ikan gerut gerut (silver grunter). I always loved the succulent meat paired with savoury gravy. Coincidentally, there are also some lemongrasses left for that steamed fish recipe so I pureed that with some onions, simmers it and put the sambal. Long story short, I was utterly shocked that it tasted like rendang. After I re-checked it - it was actually rendang that I just cooked!

Apparently, even with almost 10 years cooking experience, I still didn't know the recipe for rendang! I never even thought about it since I only saw my aunt cooked it for aidilfitri and it looked so complicated (lots of ingredients) and took too long to cook (probably because we cooked a lot and my aunt loved it dry). The sambal itself has been mixed with some coconut milk to make it creamier and tone down the spicy-ness. I was not really a bright kid, aren't I?

Not helping Sam. Pfft.

Featured Blogger - Amira Syukrina

May 23, 2017

For the only segment I have done, I have promised that the winner will be featured in my slider thingy for a week. So here it is ladies and gentleman, I introduce you to Amira Syukrina.

I just knew her guys but I do love her style. Apparently, she just changed to a new theme and I have told you how I love a banner with a collage of images and the one she has is just awesome. Not to mention, she also tell us how she workaround to get the new look so if you guys feeling a little artsy today maybe you can check out her work, click HERE.

She just finishes her STPM and shares some about her STPM related experience. I have to say I just love that even with her laid back Bahasa, she still make effort to properly spell and use the right language construct. I do notice some peoples like to say just write how you like it but I totally would appreciate a good effort in maintaining Bahasa use. Apart from that, she is currently doing a 10 day writing challenge that actually features some good topics. You guys maybe can join that too and have some bonding session. The second topic was actually some facts about her which you can read it HERE.

So that is all from me folks, I am currently having panic attack because I helped a friend of me to book a ticket to Jakarta and I was so scared if I do anything wrong. I have rechecked it but I still have this nagging feeling that something wrong will happen. It's annoyingly stressful. Pray for me guys.

By the way, I was supposed to do this yesterday but I got busy and stuff so the one week would be count from today.

Roll On: The Blue Sky Tag by The Hundred Pages

May 18, 2017

I wasn't really busy but I just really really don't feel like updating my blog. PMS sort of depress-ish and after one week on Twitter for twt_buku , I just want some peaceee. I have lots of to do post though. Like a lot. So thank god I actually feel rajin because answering tags meaning to talk about me and I love to talk about me so much.

Ok, actually, it was so fun to randomly blog walk and saw more and more bloggers were doing The Sunshine Blogger Award and The Blue Sky Tag. It was previously on Wordpress platform and Ally has been darling enough to include me and now it is all over. Woot woot!

For The Sunshine Blogger Award, I award it to the new bloggers I come to made friend with. On the other hand, The Blue Sky tag was given to new bloggers that come to my blog, sort of making new friendship. Now, apparently, I have been tagged back by for The Blue Sky by a lovely bibliophile blogger named Eyqa. Eyqa is sho naishhhhhh *insert heart eyes here*

Btw, Anwar Hadi has been so cool to actually answer my Sunshine Blogger Award like whatttttttttttttttttttt.
Go read her book review HERE

Roll On: Sunshine Blogger Award - Jieha Nasir version

Roll On: Too Much Information Tag

Mar 30, 2017

This is a repost - due to some issue I have to repost something.

Some bloggers has made this tag and it was a really interesting thing to read. I thought I should try it.

Warning, i'm really lame.

I even supposed to be asleep right now since it has been a long day. Now we need to go to a family friend house after Asar and most probably head home at night. I need some rest. Their mom just passed away.

I need coffee.

Q1: What are you wearing?

A simple thin t-shirt and comfy pajamas because Malaysia is hot and i'm just hotter.

Q2: Ever been in love?

With my mom, I didn't really understand at the time (when she passed away) about how much I have love her. How much she was a big presence in my life and that she was beyond perfection that I would never ever think of. I don't realize it right away. Sometime last two years I might have "grown up" and notice this. I have been badly in love with her since.

Q3: Ever had a terrible breakup?

Nope.

Q4: How tall are you?

A proud 160 cm a.k.a 5'3. Just FYI, i'm taller than Kim Kardashian-West and Anna Kendrick.

Q5: How much do you weigh?

I know this question exist to have a better picture of what the person really is but how about no? Just because. Isn't it's sort of screwed up that knowing if a people is thin or fat might change your impression on their personality?

I'm borderline overweight - based on BMI scale.

No, I don't promote the weird agenda that fat is beautiful. If you're dying because of it, now that just wrong ok.

Q6: Any tattoos?

No, i'm a Muslim. It's prohibited.

Q7: Any piercings?

Nope. Not even ear piercing. Not much a fan on jewelry that would be hidden since I wear shawl.

Q8: OTP?

Man, I don't really have any pair crossing my mind right now.

After some thinking, I do have have one. It's funny that I didn't thought of it right away.

Misha Collins and his wife, Victoria Vantoch. I'm an avid Supernatural fans and I just LOVE Misha Collins (i'm fucking fan-girling over a father of two). Misha Collins is a true eccentric and he had a tough life before. Now he have done lots of works to help others. He have been homeless and during his hardship he found peoples throwing him some random kindness which is most of his charity works today. His international scavenger hunts is simply GENIUS.

Above all, he is downright weird and a big dork. Seeing his chemistry with Victoria was just perfection. I always believe in soulmates but to actually sees it is a satisfaction. You know when you see some celebrity and like that guy is good and that girl is nice and they look even better together because they look good. Misha don't fit into that stereotype and somehow Victoria is like specially the one and only for him.

WHY AM I DOING SUCH A LONG EXPLANATION?

Actual caption on his Twitter : I'm not sure of what the genetic explanation is, but everyone in our family grows different colored mustaches.

Roll On: Three Simple Ways To Leave Impression Onto Readers

Mar 13, 2017

I hated my old theme but been too stressed out to change it (it was meant to be temporary because the template before that was not responding in mobile modes). It is such a good thing to finally open my blog, be at the awe and just head over heels in love with it.
